Pico's Four Surgeries
Donation protected
In January 2021, my moms adopted their first dog together, a goldendoodle named Nacho. They fell deeply in love but unfortunately she died very unexpectedly in November 2021, just after her first birthday due to an inability of her body to produce platelets. Moms were lucky enough to truly start their healing in January 2022 when they adopted me, her half sister, Pico. They were so ready to have a happy and healthy dog. Unfortunately, I have not been without my own health problems. Thanksgiving 2022 I tore the CCL in my right hind leg, similar to an ACL tear in humans. 12 days later, I tore my second CCL, which happens in around 50% of dogs who tear the first. This led to two knee surgeries over a two month span before I began experiencing gastrointestinal issues.
In March alone, I had to have my anal glands removed and had emergency exploratory surgery to determine if I had a possible GI blockage. This surgery showed no blockage but did reveal swollen lymph nodes which could indicate cancer, all before I even reach a year and a half old. Moms said we are currently awaiting biopsy results. These four surgeries have cost an impressive $13,748.60, and while we have pet insurance, the annual payout limit is only $5,000. These unexpected costs have hit my moms at the same time as their planned and budgeted fertility treatments to become parents, and we are humbly asking for a small amount of support from those we do life with to help counterbalance these steep veterinary bills.
Thank you all so much for caring about us and sharing in these incredibly weird and rough times! We love you all so much.
Love,
Pico and my mamas
