Pickles’s Emergency Vet Care

Hello friends, As most people know, Pickles is the silly, sweet, stinky, snuggly little love of my life. He’s been by my side the past 7 years, charming the pants off everyone he meets with his silly antics and lovable personality. After an unexpected turn of health events over the past few days and a surprise diagnosis for this little guy, we humbly ask for your help. The Situation: Pickles gave us a scare when he suddenly became very ill the other night. He was fatigued, lost interest in his food, and developed full-body tremors that increased in frequency and intensity as the hours passed. After being rushed to BEVS and having some trial and error diagnostic testing, it was confirmed that Pickles has Addison’s Disease. Basically, his adrenal glands can’t produce what his little doggy bod needs to physiologically handle stress. When untreated, this creates wonky hormonal levels that can lead to “Addisonian crisis” (essentially shock), which can lead to death. Luckily his little body was telling us that something was wrong, and we caught it before things got really bad. I’m happy to report that Pickles is stable and doing well at this time! Luckily, Addison’s is very treatable, and Pickles can live a long, happy life with monthly injections and daily medication. WHEW! The Yucky Financial Part: This emergency comes at a transitional time. Being newly graduated and on the job hunt means I am unfortunately not prepared to cover Pickles’s unexpected vet bill. I absolutely *loathe* asking for money, but we are in quite an unexpected financial bind. Enter GoFundMe! Pickles’s total emergency vet care bill, (which includes blood panel, diagnostic testing, overnight boarding, fluids, medication, and so on) and first month’s worth of medication totals just under $2,000 (can provide a detailed breakdown). If you are feeling financially abundant and able to contribute to these unexpected expenses, big or small, we would be incredibly grateful. If you too are in a tight spot, you can still help by sharing the link and telling others how incredibly special this little dude is. Again, MANY thanks for all the love and support folx have given us over the years. Here’s to many, many more with this healthy, happy little guy!Thank you, Sam & Pickles
