Hello all...
I have had a few people tell me to make one of these, and even though I find it hard to ask for help, here I am.
So, most of you know the situation with Pickles. She was doing AMAZING and our family loves her. She is only 3 months old. On Saturday (4/23/22), she starting acting a bit tired. On Sunday, she was still tired, and she starting throwing up all of her meals. Monday we had an appointment with our regular vet (Nottingham Animal Hospital). They said she looked good, despite cleary not feeling good. They suggested a bland diet, prescribed some probiotics, and sent us on our way.
That day, I tried and tried to get her to eat. She MAYBE ate about a tablespoon worth of the boiled chicken and rice I made. Tuesday, she was the same. I tried feeding her ANYTHING. Chicken, rice, peanut butter, applesauce, wet food, dry food. Nothing. For dinner I tried plain ground beef, which again, she ate MAYBE a tablespoon worth again.
We made another appointment on Wednesday (my birthday ) to go get her rechecked. They said she was sick enough to be admitted. She had lost almost 2 pounds, and her blue eye had turned yellow, showing signs of jaundice. I brought a pee sample, and they did x-rays, both looked fine. Her bloodwork, however, did not. Her bun, creatine, among other things were extremely elevated. She even said she wouldn't judge me if I decided to put her down right then and there. However, also said because she is so young, we could take her to Northstar vets asap and see what they could do.
Northstar tested her for parvo, which was negative. They did an ultrasound, which showed no foreign bodies, no tumors, nothing. They suspect she has leptospirosis, however, that came back negative as well. They are still treating her currently as if she has leptospirosis because sometimes the test gives a false negative. We have are currently at $2,034 at Northstar. That is not including the $580.49 from our vet bill that morning. I haven't worked in over 2 years due to covid and my unemployment benefits ended a while ago, so we are a family of 5 with two dogs on one income. It breaks our heart to even think about giving up on her for financial reasons, especially since she is so young. So, all that being said...we appreciate ever so much any help anyone is willing to give. Thanks so much.
