Our goal is to take all adoptable dogs from Animal Control, before their date with death row comes up. In doing so we work with a number of rescue organizations, primarily in the Washington DC, to leverage their larger populations and greater volunteer base to find loving, forever homes for dogs from rural Pickens County.
Unfortunately, this isn't free - often these adoptable dogs have medical needs, ranging from the basic vaccinations and spay or neuter to heartworm treatment or more significant needs. Our goal is to make sure those needs are met prior to transport, so they arrive at their forever home in good health. Thankfully, we have wonderful rescue partners who do help with a large portion of the medical and boarding costs associated with each of these dogs while they are in our care. However, we have overarching fixed costs such as kennel building rent, kennel runs, crates, electricity and other costs.
It's our belief, that even though they are considered unwanted, that each of these dogs, dogs like Wilfred, can find a loving home, even if it means making the long trip to Washington DC in a passenger van.
All Dogs of Pickens Transport is a 501(c)3 non-profit charity.
