Pichichero Family Recovery

What should have been the most amazing last couple of weeks has turned into an absolute nightmare. Frankie was born on 5/23/2023. We were discharged on 5/25 and had about 24 hours home as a family of four before all hell broke loose. On 5/26, Brittany was diagnosed with pneumonia. On 5/29 she returned to the ER and told that she was in a normal amount of pain given the pneumonia and c section recovery. During this time, Izzy had an unidentified illness and was diagnosed with a double ear infection. About 48 hours later, baby frank started displaying labored breathing and was admitted to Akron Childrens Hospital with RSV. Again, we all of this is going on Brittany is speaking to many healthcare professionals complaining of severe abdominal pain and being told it was “normal” recovery. While saddened to have frank in the hospital, it was where was safest for him. Fortunate to have a ton of family to help so there is someone with frank 24/7 and Izzy was with a beloved sitter during the days and her parents in the evening trying to give her some normalcy. Still suffering from severe abdominal pain, on Sat June 3 Brittany spiked a fever. She went to Akron General OB complaining of severe abdominal pain telling providers that this was nothing like her first c section recovery. Again, she is told she’s stressed, she has pneumonia and now is diagnosed with RSV. To the providers this was sufficient enough cause for the fever and no further investigation into the abdominal pain was done. The days continue and thank god Izzy starts to feel better, Frank gets through the worst of RSV yet Brittany continues to decline. On Wednesday June 7th Brittany went to the ER for the fourth time. At this point her vitals are all over the place and practitioners finally start to take her complaints seriously. At this time Frank is still in Akron Childrens trying to wean off of oxygen to come home. Brittany has been hospitalized since the 7th with an abdominal infection and sepsis. When imaging was finally done, they found a 20cm abscess in her stomach along with a couple other smaller ones. This has been an incredible stress on every part of this family. People have asked how they can help so we started this. We have a long road of recovery ahead of us.
