Picci's Emergency Treatment (lily poisoning detox)
Donation protected
Who knew lilies could kill cats? We certainly did not.
When we found Picci's fur stained yellow with lily pollen from a bouquet in our house we washed her, not knowing how long it had been there or if she had groomed herself. After that is when we googled and found out every single part of the plant is poisonous and causes kidney failure within 3 days of ingesting (even just a few granules of pollen). We called our usual neighborhood vet to ask them what to do, and they stressed the severity of this situation and told us to rush her to another emergency animal hospital. She's been on IV fluids to flush her system and a catheter to monitor her urine and kidneys, as well as daily bloodwork.
Since posting about this, there has been an overwhelming outpouring of love and concern from our friends, along with heartbreaking accounts of how so many people we knew found out about lily poisoning the hard way with their own cats, many after it was too late.
We were told the fact that we acted quickly was crucial. The good news is this treatment is really promising in her making a recovery, the awful news is, by the time she is able to be discharged, the cost of this lifesaving protocol will be between $3,857.02-$4,436.68, according to the paperwork we had to sign for her to begin the treatment. I asked if there is any way this could be treated at home because of how unaffordable that is, and was told "you really don't have that option in this scenario."
We could never put a price on Picci's life, obviously. She's the best lil gremlin- Baby Yoda -ferret - stands on two feet for snacks - "WOW!!" yellin' - rughuggin' munchkin there ever was, and to know her is to love her. If you have it in your hearts and budget to donate to help us cover this treatment for her, all of us would owe you the biggest debt of gratitude ♥
