Hannah’s Road to Recovery ❤️‍

Meet our sweet Hannah! The last week of January she started having loss of feeling in her feet and hands. Over the next two days, this spread to weakness in her legs making it hard for her to walk. I took her to urgent care immediately where 911 was called due to her fall on the way in. This lead to the Emergency room and admission to Emory of Decatur hospital on January 31. During this past month at the hospital, Hannah has been through an extremely vast amount of lab testing, 7 MRIs and 2 lumbar punctures among other testing for swallowing and CT scans. The neurologist team suggested IVIG and after 3 daily treatments Hannah’s condition worsened and she needed to be intubated for a week in the ICU. During that week the second treatment plan began. This consisted of 7 plasma exchanges over 11 days. Thankfully she is now off the ventilator and out of the ICU, working toward recovery. Her medical team has diagnosed her with Guillain-Barre Syndrome. She will recover! Unfortunately this is a very long recovery journey. From the hospital she will go to inpatient rehabilitation for an unknown amount of time. Once discharged, she’ll have outpatient therapy until she is fully cleared to work, drive etc. Additionally, we may need to purchase medical equipment to make our home accessible for her needs while she recovers. Due to the syndrome, she is currently unable to stand, walk or basically get around on her own.

She’s really missing her family and friends due to COVID restrictions for visitors in the hospital. (Limited to mom & dad). She also misses going to work at LEAPS, the behavior therapy clinic where she works as a registered behavior technician. She had started Grad school last year to get her Masters in Behavior Analysis and has had to put that on hold as she’s been in the hospital for a month now

Loss of work, pending bills and now extended medical costs have got us here. We prayer-fully ask that you contribute to her fund. We have yet to learn the extent of the cost of her care over the past month and going forward with all I’ve mentioned above.

We appreciate all donations, prayers and positive support for a speedy recovery for our sweet Hannah!
