Phyllis Bendtsen is the 76 year-old widow of a 100% disabled WWII veteran. During the early morning hours of 12/3/15, a 31 year-old meth addict entered her home and beat her. Even though Phyllis' health is very frail, including being a life-long Type 1 diabetic, legally blind, surviving 3 heart attacks, and being less than 5 feet tall, she fought off the attacker and managed to call for help on her medic alert monitor.
Police had to break down her bedroom door because the attacker had locked himself in the bedroom with her. However, they were able to capture him.
Phyllis sustained a broken right wrist, cut head, extremely bruised elbow and knee, and bruises all long the right side of her body. I am her best friend and neighbor and stayed with her all day at her home until we were able to get her admitted to a nursing facility.
Her bedroom was left in shambles from the attackers rampage, with cabinet doors ripped off, clothing and linens strewn across the floor, 2 doors destroyed, a TV knocked off the dresser, oxygen machine broken, flower pots broken and dirt everywhere, broken glass everywhere... Somehow even the electrical outlets were corrupted and require an electrician to restore them.
Her ordeal was the lead story on the local TV news that night. In spite of everything, she hopes the attacker can get help.http://bit.ly/1jCnk4q
A big concern is that Phyllis has struggled with financial problems for quite some time since her husband died and her homeowners insurance deductible is $1,500. She has no credit left on her credit card, so there is no way that she can afford to repair her home. She will also have some medical co-pays and a few other miscellaneous expenses.
Any support she can get that will help her restore her home and pay her bills would be GREATLY appreciated! This lady is a real fighter and deserves our support.
