Photographer Needing Upgrades

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Leigh Mosley. I am an award-winning 78-year-old photographer, filmmaker, storyteller, and documentarian who has been covering the Black and LGBTQ+ communities in DC for 57 years. I've managed to keep up with the requisite equipment to continue working nearly six decades.

I am currently working on several projects that need your support. See the list below.

1) Pioneers for Justice: Black Lesbians in the DMV, a documentary film that profiles the lives and social activism of Black Lesbians in the DC metropolitan area who are 70+ and have made substantial contributions to the LGBTQ+ and Black communities during the past 40-50 years

NOTE: In October 2023, the DC Arts and Humanities Commission informed me I had received a grant to partially support this project. The funding will be dispersed in January 2024. Although I am grateful for the grant, it fell short of my expectations and needs to complete the project. I still need one backup camera, one lens and additional funding to hire a producer and an editor.

2) Retrospective celebrating my creativity over the past six decades

3) Archiving my photographic legacy in partnership with the Martin Luther King, Jr. Library in DC

4) Documentary film on the history of Black cooperatives (food, housing, and more)

Being able to complete these projects in 2024 and beyond will allow me to inform and hopefully inspire a multiplicity of communities. With your generous support, I know we can make these groundbreaking projects a reality.
