Phoenix Rising!
Phoenix Yoga emerged from the ashes of The House of Yoga's liquidation two years ago, driven by our community of yogis and teachers committed to preserving and enhancing the cherished studio space and its unique community vibe.
From the Ashes of Disaster Grow the Roses of Success!
Following the liquidation of our co-tenant Heba Pilates earlier this year - we now have the opportunity to secure our long-term future via a 15-year lease with our own self-contained premises!
At the turn of the year, Phoenix Yoga was breaking even with Year-on-Year increases in revenue and attendances of ~30%, however Heba's liquidation led to the forfeiture of our ~£9,000 deposit, which we will need to repay upon signing our new lease.
We are close to an agreement with our landlord regarding maintenance issues left by previous tenants, which have resulted in necessary dilapidation repairs. These include:
- Urgent repair work needed on the basement sewage systems ~ £5,000
- Repairs to the ongoing leaking studio roof
- Repair / replacement of the rotting fence at the railway side of the studio
Building Our Future
In May 2025 we commissioned - and have now completed - the urgent works to provide self contained male / female facilities. The cost for the required building work was approximately £25,000. These works include;
- Converting the therapy room to a Male changing room
- Reconfiguring the Female changing room - installing a new wall and door between Female changing / toilets
- Converting Female toilets to Unisex
- Converting office space into a new community-focused studio – installing new flooring and soundproofed studio ceiling
The culmination of our building efforts has resulted in the successful creation of our own standalone space, as well as a beautiful second studio dedicated to community engagement. In this new facility, we will expand our services to include Mat Pilates, Barre Yoga, Mum and Baby Yoga and serve as a hub for community interest groups.
Fund Raising
While several support offers were received, the immediate need to proceed with the work did not allow time for fundraising, which sees us in the unusual position of raising funds for work that has already been completed. The more urgent requirement is to raise ~£9,000 for the deposit for the new lease.
In addition to this GoFundMe campaign we will therefore be organizing a program of fundraising initiatives this year (including Open Days, Auctions and Community Outreach) to cover the building costs, replenish our reserves and help us get back on the path to growth for our community.
