Help Phoenix & Taos with medical bills & school!

Hello all!

My name is Taos and I’m a student entering my final semester of nursing school. My partner Phoenix (who is in the same nursing program) and I are reaching out to our friends, family, and community for support because an already super stressful time in our lives recently became extra challenging when Phoenix fell and badly broke his ankle. He is unable to drive and will be non-weight bearing for at least 8 weeks, and restricted mostly to laying in bed.

We’d already been anticipating financial challenges, as our final semester of classes includes 36hrs/week of unpaid clinicals at the hospital (our transition to practice). This leaves very little time to work our regular jobs during the week, and also meet all of life’s other necessities.

We both pair full-time school with full-time work as CNA’s.

He works in the Emergency department and I work in the ICU. After graduating we will be working in emergency medicine and critical care respectively. Nursing is something we are both incredibly passionate about and feel we have a calling for. Phoenix has always been steward for mental health advocacy and justice, and I am particularly drawn towards the advancement of maternal healthcare harm reduction in the community.

Now with unexpected medical bills and Phoenix’s temporary loss of income on top of everything else, we’re realizing we need to ask for help, which is humbling and not easy for either of us.

Your support (any amount is so appreciated!) will help us cover Phoenix’s orthopedist bills and possible surgery, as well as our basic needs such as food, rent, gas, and pet boarding (our sweet pup, Veda, will need to be boarded when I am not home, as Phoenix’s injury limits his ability to care for her) during this final semester.

We are both extremely hard working and the type of people who believe in reciprocity and “paying it forward.”
