Rising From the Ashes: Help Our Family Rebuild After the Eaton Fires

Hi, my name is Daizy, also known as The AfroMystic. I am a spiritual practitioner, community healer, and deeply rooted in my love for my family and our historically Black neighborhood.

In the early hours of January 7th, 2025, a dream warned me of a fire—and it gave my family just enough time to escape before devastation struck our community.

It felt so real, so urgent, that I couldn’t shake it. I suggested to my family we should leave—something about the weather forecast and the air didn’t sit right. Trusting my intuition, we packed what little we could and left our neighborhood in Altadena, CA.

Six hours later, the fire started. What would come to be known as the most destructive fire in LA history (The Eaton Fire) swept through our entire city, leaving utter devastation in its path.

Our community, our history, and our sense of home—all of it burned. Watching the destruction unfold was like watching a piece of my soul turn to ash. We are safe, but displaced, and unable to return to Altadena because the fire has left the land toxic and uninhabitable, especially for one of our family members who is 70+. Much of what made our little historically Black neighborhood special is gone.

Now, we’re displaced and waiting in the wings, uncertain about the future of our home, our land, and our Altadena. But we are not without hope.

I’m asking for your help to begin the long journey of rebuilding. My goal is to raise $25,000 to help cover the many expenses required to repair, recover, and restore our lives over the next 3+-5 years. These funds will go toward housing, essential resources, and starting the process of rebuilding our community—brick by brick, piece by piece.

This will be a long road over the course of 3+ years, but we are determined to rise like a phoenix from these ashes. Every contribution, no matter how small, brings us closer to that vision.
