Tomorrow will be 397 days since my big brother became paralyzed and has been in a hospital bed or nursing home. For those of you that don’t know, my older brother Danny was in a near fatal car accident in April 2020 when he swerved off the road to miss a herd of elk and suffered what was thought to be a complete injury to his spinal cord. He spent two months in the hospital and was then transferred to a nursing home.
June 2020 was the last time I publicly shared about his accident, when we assumed he would be discharged to figure out his next steps in life. Since then, he has had Covid, Pneumonia, MRSA, stage 4 bedsores, a bone infection, a major surgery plus a skingraft, and much more that is either too gruesome or too painful to share. Despite all that plagued him this past year, his hope, strength, and resilience remained consistent.
Last September, Danny found a spinal cord rehabilitation facility in Omaha, Nebraska called QLI and our sights have been set on it since. QLI is one of, if not the, best spinal cord rehabilitation facilities in the country, and going there was a long shot goal to say the least. However, with the help of a lot of incredibly wonderful people along the way, I couldn’t be happier to share that Danny has been accepted into QLI’s program and will spend the next 3 months there starting in a few days!
I just flew into Montana and I will check Danny out of his nursing home tomorrow (Monday, May 19th) to spend a couple of days getting him ready for his next adventure and to breathe a bit before the wonderful, but hard work ahead. Danny will need a lot of help and assistance along the way, especially after he gets out of QLI, and I will continue to support him in all the ways I know how.

At the same time, he has seen so much of the light and he is a fighter.
