Save Our (CAT) House
Arthur (top photo) is just one of the rescue cats that I care for. At the moment there are nine, varying in age from 2 years to 15 years. They are: Albert, Arthur, Bouncer, Calamity, Delphi, Foster, Rusty, Squeaky, and Winken. Most were rescued as kittens by my wife, who has been unable to care for them or contribute to the expense for several years.
This is a happy and contented family of adorable cats that all love and care for each other. It's in
serious danger of being broken apart.
To get right to the point, I'm broke and cannot meet a huge unexpected property tax bill. We are about to lose our house. I will be homeless and the cat family will be split up.
For the past 19 years I have been taking care of a varying number of rescued cats. The last seven years brought a number of new problems, due to my wife's illness. The colony grew from four to a dozen. Caring for the cats has consumed just about every cent that I take in from my Social Security and the kindness of friends. My wife has been quite ill and almost an invalid ever since she had to leave Chama in 2012, due to chronic mountain sickness. She is 72, I am 84. I live hand-to-mouth every month. Most of my money goes to feed the cats and keep the house warm and comfortable for them.
I have just been notified that we owe the state almost $8.000.00 in back property taxes, which went unpaid because I was unaware that we owed them. Yes, I should have known and yes, I am getting old and I thought we were exempt. Apparently, for the past five years the state has been sending tax bills to the wrong address.
I need to raise the money ASAP (September 15) in order to avoid having the place sold at auction. Any funds over and above the eight thousand are for fixing our leaky roof, and getting my chronically ailing 30-year-old truck fixed so that we can get to the store and the vet.
I cannot offer much to donors except photos and stories about the cats and an occasional newsletter. But I will happily answer all emails and keep you up-to-date on our progress.
Your donation will certainly be greatly appreciated by me and especially by the cats!
You will know that you helped keep a family together.
