Dear Friends,
As most of you know, 10 years ago I had stage 4 thyroid cancer. The surgery I underwent paralyzed my right vocal chord and the doctors told me “You will never sing again.” Luckily, I can still sing, but with much less volume and a scratchier tone. At this point, my voice is not loud enough to even considering performing and I’m ok with that. It does, however, allow me to write songs.
In 2001 I moved to Nashville to pursue music. During that time I had the opportunity to pitch my songs to numerous execs in the industry and every time I got a similar response, “Keep up the good work and keep writing! I feel like the songs are almost there!” Almost there, but not quite there and deep inside I knew it before I even pitched them. Then a few years later, when I lost my voice to cancer it felt like the musical door had closed shut.
Fast-forward to a few months ago (more than a decade later). I had an opportunity to pitch some of my new Country / Americana songs to an A & R rep / Producer here in Nashville by the name of Jeff Teague. Jeff has worked with Kenny Rogers, Pam Tillis, Trisha Yearwood, Joe Diffie, and Ricky Skaggs to name a few and has worked in all facets of the industry. He does amazing production work! I sang over the music recorded on my phone expecting a similar response from the past, however this time the response was different. “Your songs are very pitch-worthy, I’d like to produce them!” he said. He wants to produce the songs with studio musicians and studio vocalists to create a professional songwriting demo, so I can pursue efforts of landing a publishing deal.
My goal is $4,000. This amount will cover studio time, studio musicians, vocalists, production cost, mixing and mastering. Recording the songs shouldn’t take longer than 2 or 3 days. We have refined all the songs and they are ready to record. We have already picked out the perfect country vocalist for the tracks as well. All I need to move forward is the finances and that’s where you come in!
