On Sunday I sat in a small meeting in a church in Philadelphia, in the shadows of the new Philadelphia Temple. I was deeply moved by the words of the young women who shared their thoughts and feelings about living a Christ-like life and the challenges they face.
One girl shared how even though she and her family were huddled together in a "safe" part of the house the night before as gun shots rang outside, she knows that each day they must be brave and go out to school, work, and do the normal life things. She compared that to making good choices even when it is hard to do. I was inspired to do something brave myself.
I hate fundraising. I hate asking for help in many ways, but this needs to be done so I am doing it. I am asking for your help to get these youth to EFY, a goal they've had for a long time.
The young women I just spoke of and several young men from the same congregation have a wonderful chance to travel to BYU in Provo, Utah to attend Especially For Youth, a week-long youth conference, designed to increase their spiritual development and gain a greater undestanding of who they are as children of God.
This page is set up to help cover their expenses. It will cost $700 per youth (conference fees and airfare.) They have already earned $700 through a Christmas Tree Collection event in January and all of them have jobs to earn money as well. Their registration is complete and the plans are set. Now we need to raise the money.
I am asking for your help to give them this chance to go on a journey not just across the country but a life journey of understanding and vision; to open new doors that will make a significant difference in their lives forever.
