Phillip J. Pogue

In January 2022, my family and I received the devastating news that my father was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer called Glioblastoma. Glioblastoma is the most common form of malignant brain tumors, and is very fast growing and difficult to treat. Despite having all odds stacked against him, he fought and battled this horrific disease for almost 2 years until he passed away peacefully last week at the age of 52.

Words can’t express our sorrow for this loss, and while we could go on about all he endured in his final years, months, and days, what matters most to us is not that he battled cancer. What we care about deeply is that his memory is kept alive through all who knew and loved him.

For those of you who never met my father, I can guarantee he would have made you laugh at some point in your first interaction. He had such a great sense of humor, and anyone who stepped foot in his shop can attest to this.

He was a dedicated barber and practiced his craft for over 30 years. Even after he was diagnosed, had surgery, and was beginning treatment, he talked about getting back to work. It was a huge passion and connected him to his community in a meaningful way.

He was steadfast and loyal. When he loved, he loved deeply, and he had his own special ways of showing it which evolved over time, as he evolved as a person. With time he softened and it was beautiful to witness. My dad was always so strong, and he never wavered even up to his last breath. He was not only a great father but was so good to his grand babies. He fought hard to stay strong for them and love on them as long as possible - it was such a gift to all of us.

We will forever be grateful to all of you who have thought and prayed for him and our family these past few years. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for your kindness and generosity.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations can be made to his memorial service or the glioblastoma foundation. Any donations in his name can help the cause to find a cure. More details on his memorial and celebration of life to come.

Thank you so much.
