Before Phillip and I were dating, he gave me a cd with demos he had been sitting on for years, wanting to record full versions but never had. I listened to it on constant repeat, everyday, all day. To the point of it getting jammed in my car stereo. It's partly what made me fall in love with him.
On our first date, he played me a song he wrote the night we met. To think I had made that kind of impact on someone with my music alone was the greatest gift I had ever received.
Then 10 years ago on February 10th, Phillip and I had been dating for 6 months and I was celebrating a year of sobriety from drugs. He took me out on a celebration date and ended up playing a song he wrote for me about how we met. One of the greatest songs I've ever heard.. I might be a tad bias but it's the best.
And then before our wedding he wrote one that is, honestly, my all time favorite song.
What I'm getting to is that this man is, truly, one of the greatest writers and greatest singers I have ever heard.
But you haven't. And that's ridiculous.
For decades, he has put endless support into the art of those around him.. mine, especially.. and never once complained about his own being on the back-burner. (I'm getting choked up just writing that.)
It's been long enough. And I'm ready to hear these songs reach their full potential.. and for you all to, finally, get to enjoy them as I have this past decade.
Phillip would never ask anyone to contribute to his own work.. so I will for him. We're not great at asking for much from others, but on his behalf, if you're able to donate towards a project that I can promise you're going to flip over.. I would be forever grateful. It's time for this amazing body of work to see the light of day!
And this most amazing man, truly, deserves it.
