Philip "Philbo" Rooney Funeral Fundraiser

A lifelong Morton fan, both home and away, Phil Rooney started volunteering for Morton TV in 1997 and remained an integral part of the Morton TV team until his sad and sudden passing on Tuesday 21/3/2023.

Phil lived every fan’s dream by working so closely with the club. He followed Morton all over Scotland and even ventured to Finland in 1997 as part of Ton TV.

Without Phil’s hard work and dedication behind the scenes, Ton TV wouldn’t be where it is today and true to form, Phil did all this without seeking recognition or praise - both of which would have been well deserved. He did this because of his love for the club.

He looked forward to every game and, win lose or draw, Phil would be there supporting the Ton. He even had to suffer the defeats twice over as he would edit the games to send to the Managers and Coaches after every match for the last 26 years.

With Phil gone, the highlights will be a very quiet place as his trademark shout of MON EH TON! will no longer be heard from his seat behind the camera.

Phil is the definition of a true supporter of Greenock Morton; and at this time we are asking his fellow fans to extend their support to Phil’s family.

We are asking the fans for any contribution they can provide in order to support with the cost of Phil’s funeral which would help alleviate the financial burden to his family.

Any excess raised will be donated to the British Heart Foundation and Diabetes Scotland in Phil’s memory.

His funeral will take place at the Largs crematorium on 21nd April 2023 @ 11am, and then the Upper Port Glasgow Social Club from 12:30pm for chat, tea and sandwiches.

Philip was a larger than life character and loved a bit of colour and the odd loud shirt, the family are happy for anyone to celebrate Philips life by wearing colour if they would like to.
