Phil was diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), otherwise known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, in August 2018. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.
ALS has impacted Phil's ability to care for himself. He can no longer walk, perform daily hygiene tasks, or even eat independently. His speech has also slowed, and he sometimes chokes when he drinks water or other beverages.
We are raising money to help specifically with Phil's caregiving needs while Jennifer is at work and the kids are at school. The kids have stepped up over the last several months to help with Phil's care, and we have had friends and family help out as well when they can. Any help given to Phil's care is greatly appreciated. Good caregivers can be difficult to come by and need to be paid accordingly. This is often the most expensive part of the disease.
Funds raised in the past for Phil helped with previous part-time care, the purchase of his power wheelchair, medical bills, and a down payment for a ramp van to get Phil around. We are asking for financial help again, specifically for Phil's caregiving.
