Support for Phil Heisel's Family

Donation protected

“What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven in the lives of others”

Philip Heisel passed away on Tuesday, June 1st 2021 following an accident resulting in a severe head injury. Our families are thankful that Phil passed away peacefully with his wife, Anika, by his side. He was able to be an organ donor, giving life and hope to other families.

Phil grew up in the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia, moving to Maryland in 2010.  He loved being outdoors, and was well known for his sense of humor and love of adventure - many experienced his practical jokes and enthusiastic high fives.  He also enjoyed jumping on his motorcycle for a beautiful afternoon drive or meticulously planning an exploratory vacation in another city or country.  His sarcastic quips kept everyone on their toes and giggling. When Phil and Anika welcomed their son, Gavin, to the family Phil often joked about adding a side-car to his motorcycle to ensure Gavin could join in on the family adventures.

This GoFundMe is organized by Elana Swartz, Anika's sister, along with the Swartz-Heisel family and friends. The funds raised will go towards covering Phil's hospital bills from his stay in the ICU, his memorial service, as well as the costs associated with Anika and Gavin relocating to the greater Howard County area. Anika is incredibly grateful and touched by those that have reached out in support during this difficult time. Phil was a vivacious, jovial, and integral part of so many lives and will be greatly missed.

A celebration of life service will be held at Mosaic Christian Church on June 25th: details of the service and Phil's obituary can be found here: Phil Heisel Obituary and Service Details.

Please feel free to share stories and photos here - we will be making a memory book for Gavin in the coming months!
