Kenyan School Project (KSP) is thrilled to announce a significant new partnership with the Children of the Rising Sun (CRS) Primary School and Orphanage, located in a high-need area near Malindi, Kenya.
This collaboration marks an important milestone in KSP's commitment to supporting education, health, and stability for vulnerable children in East Africa. For the past decade, the foundational work at CRS has been championed by two dedicated volunteers, Cathy Doherty and Hal Seifert. Through their unwavering personal commitment, Cathy and Hal have been the primary force behind CRS, consistently raising crucial funds and procuring essential resources through the generosity and support of their personal networks of friends and family.
The Goal: Essential Support and Direct Impact
With the formal, organizational backing and infrastructure of the Kenyan School Project, we are now planning a vital trip to CRS. Our goal is to send Cathy Doherty, Hal Seifert, and Public Health Nurse Nicole Given back to Kenya to continue and expand upon this vital work.
The need at the Children of the Rising Sun is profound and multifaceted. The orphanage and the attached school serve over 500 students who face daily challenges related to significant health issues, endemic poverty, and severe food insecurity. The consistent presence and expert care provided by our team is absolutely essential for the well-being and future of these children.
During this comprehensive visit, the team will focus on several critical areas:
- Medical Care & Health Education: Providing direct medical treatment for acute and chronic conditions and implementing sustainable health education programs to empower the students and staff.
- Nutritional Support: Distributing essential food supplies to combat malnutrition and enhance students’ ability to learn and thrive.
- Basic Necessities: Supplying new and gently-used clothing and hygiene products.
- Enrichment Experiences: Organizing meaningful, life-changing experiences for the children, such as educational field trips, which offer them a glimpse of the world outside their daily struggles and inspire hope for the future.
Progress and the Path Forward
We are delighted to report encouraging progress toward our financial goal. Our efforts have already been significantly boosted by the community. A very successful Valentine’s Day fundraising event, expertly organized and hosted by Nicole Given, raised 3930.35. Furthermore, we have received an additional $1,005 from loyal and long-time supporters of the Kenyan School Project, demonstrating their belief in this new venture.
We are aiming to reach a total fundraising goal of $15,500 by the deadline of April 1, 2026.
Your contribution is not merely a donation; it is a direct investment in the health, education, and dignity of hundreds of children. Every dollar raised will directly enable Cathy, Hal, and Nicole to return to Kenya and deliver these essential resources and care to the community that relies on them.
Thank you, as always, for your unwavering compassion, generosity, and continued support of the Kenyan School Project. Together, we can make this new partnership a resounding success.
