My name is Jessica and I am a one single person household with a mortgage payment and I'm also a business owner. My Doberman Pinscher, Pharaoh has been the light of my life just one month shy of 12 years! When he was 5 years old, he was diagnosed with DCM. A heart condition in dogs that is unfortunately very common in Dobermans and sometimes genetic. In Pharaoh's case, it was genetic. For 6 years, he has had a very happy and healthy life living with DCM. On Friday, September 5, we woke up, went for our morning walk, he ate good, maybe even some of his sisters food, we went out and did our daily lizard hunt before I left for work. Absolutely normal morning. When I got home, Pharaoh was lethargic, wouldn't eat and had a hack. The next morning, I took him to NC State Veterinary Hospital ER. They found that this was not heart related. Pharaoh was experiencing some neck pain and after 7 hours, they sent us home with pain medication and anti inflammatories. 2 hours later upon arriving home, Pharaoh was retaining fluids in his neck and his lymph nodes under his chin were swollen. The vet school ER didn't address this because it was not present while we were there at all. It developed on the 2 hour car ride home. A few days later, I got him into our primary vet and we suspected tick borne illness or maybe early on set pneumonia. We started antibiotics and after 2 days on antibiotics, Pharaohs prescapular lymph nodes at the top of his shoulders got really swollen and hard. I knew at that moment exactly what I was looking at. Lymphoma. Cancer. I made another appointment with the primary vet and he confirmed my biggest fear. Pharaoh had went from perfectly healthy to aggressive cancer in just a matter of one week. We started him on prednisone and the lymph nodes went down. Because of his age, I opted out of chemotherapy. I just don't think with his heart condition, it was a good choice to put him through so many trips to oncology and our primary vet in his last days. Unfortunately, the prednisone has not helped with Pharaohs appetite. He's currently eating things I normally would never feed him just to get something on his stomach. Liver pudding, hot dogs, bologna, egg yolks, sometimes he will eat some Cesar dog food. I decided to run some more bloodwork just 2 1/2 weeks after our visit at NCSU. The bloodwork at NCSU looked great aside from a bit elevated WBC. His new bloodwork shows extremely high liver values and sadly, Pharaoh is now in hospice care in his home. My heart shatters into a million pieces as we navigate through this process and assure he has the best final days he can. Because I want to spend as much time with him that I can, I am not working as much as I normally would. I am also having to make trips to the grocery store every other day to buy him more random things that he will eat. Between not working and grocery store visits and vet visits, my savings account is running low. I am not asking for funds to save his life. I am simply asking for funds to help us navigate this HARD time and allow myself as much time with him as I can. This dog is my soulmate dog. There will be other dobermans but never my bestest boy. This is my first goodbye and the hardest thing I have ever survived. Any donation at this time would be a blessing to me and my boy. Every second together now counts. Thanks for reading our story and if you feel compelled to donate, share or pray for us, I ask that the Lord bless you in the best way.
