phannies help valencia! raising money for flood victims
Donation protected
hello everyone, this is a message from the spanish phannies!
on october 29th, valencia (spain) suffered a flash flood. even though the spanish meteorological agency warned about the heavy rains, the valencian government decided that a warning to their people wasn't necessary, because in most towns it wasn't even raining. that has resulted in one of the most terrible natural disasters we've ever seen. people were at work, buying groceries, walking their dogs, etc. because 'nothing was going to happen'. when the flood started happening, people went to their garages to move their cars, because they're used to mild floods. but it wasn't a mild flood: it was a flash flood. within minutes, people were trapped in their homes, cars, shops, and they had to fight for their lives.
right now, thousands of people are still missing. the government says 200 people were killed, but it's more than a thousand (because not all the bodies have been recovered, the emergency services are still working on that). the towns and small villages affected have no electricity, no water, no resources. many people have lost their homes and businesses, and have to start over again.
right now, thousands of people are traveling to the affected region to help, because after all these days, the government is still not helping them. volunteers are helping clean the streets and move the cars and other stuff that's blocking the path for emergency services. they're also bringing food, water and all the resources they need, because the affected people have nothing.
you can read more about what happened here .
here you can see the aftermath and how people are working together to help the victims:
you can also check this thread. this one is in spanish , but it has picture of one of the most affected towns (paiporta).
we know phannie twitter is a beautiful community that works in unison to help anyone in need. we're asking you for help, because our neighbours need it. so please, if you can donate money, no matter how small is the amount, we will be forever grateful.
one of our friends, mer (@couragedjh) lives in one of the affected villages. this is a message from her:
"My home is flooded and no one is helping us. Even though we have been like this since the 29th of October, our representatives are not reaching out to us, and we are helpless. Fortunately, our people are good and, in situations like this, we all pitch in. But it is not enough. We need help from outside, which we are not getting, to make our house feel like home again."
if you donate on this gofundme (or any campaign you see!), some people from the spanish community are working on incentives. you will find them (and more information about the floods) on @moonypml's pinned tweet. the money on this campaign will go to the spanish Red Cross (Cruz Roja), as they're one of the main organisations who are helping the victims.
thank you so much for your help. as we say in spain, només el poble salva el poble/solo el pueblo salva al pueblo :)
