My parents, Hong and Huong, suffered a devastating house fire on 1/5/19. There is serious damage to the house from flames, heat, smoke, and water on all floors. This will take years and significant effort for the house to be repaired and restored. Without insurance, this makes the process even more challenging.
We find ourselves in a tough spot. As a family who has always worked hard for everything we’ve got, it breaks our hearts to have to ask for help. But right now, we need to humble ourselves and reach out to our support system so that my parents can get back on their feet. Your gift of money will be a tremendous help, and no amount is too small. You can also help by spreading the word by sharing this post.
Ways in which the money will be used:
Inspection and fire damage assessment
Water removal and drying
Smoke and soot removal
House cleaning and sanitation
Dumpster rental to remove damaged items
Fixing holes in the walls, ceiling, and roof
Replacing dry wall and carpets
Cleaning of the house exterior
Storage space for 6+ months
Temporary housing
Food
Furniture, appliances, cookware, etc.
Thank you for your love and support during this difficult time.
Background on my parents:
Hong was a tailor in Vietnam and Huong was a housekeeper at a hotel. Both came to the US along with my sister and me in 1995 when they were both in their 30s. The sole decision to leave Vietnam was for my sister and me to get a better education. My parents have worked hard over the years as dish washers, nail technicians, and currently, as janitors at the UPMC headquarters downtown. My dad will be turning 60 this year, and is committed to working two full time jobs until he is ready to retire. Because of my parents love and dedication, my sister and I graduated from respected colleges and are now working in our chosen field. My parents are the nicest people I know. Their doors were always opened to anyone who needed help or a place to stay. It is so hard to see this tragedy happen to goodhearted people.
We appreciate your time in reading this post, and for your support and kindness. Any advice or questions you have can be sent to my email address at [email redacted]
