Hello, for those of you who do not know me personally my name is Corban Bennett. I am a 25 year old transgender male from the suburbs of Chicago. I work as a Sterile Processing Technician at an animal hospital. My transition journey began in June of 2015 when I began hormone replacement therapy, since then I have taken multiple steps to become my true self legally and physically. In April of 2016 I had top surgery which was one of the greatest days of my life because having my male contoured chest today not only helps my dysphoria but has made it possible for me to exist and flourish in this world. My new found confidence has helped me advance my career, build new relationships, start a new business and a non-profit organization for LGBT youth. I am an advocate in my community, I have given back to many charities myself but am asking for help with this fundraiser because of the immense costs involved with these procedures. I am having my Hysterectomy/ Oophorectomy next month (May 3rd, 2017). I have worked extremely hard to cover the costs of my transition which has been close to $10k thus far. Luckily, the owners of the hospital I work at purchased a transgender related healthcare plan for me which is why I was able to take out a medical loan/ cover the cost of my Hysto/ BSO but even then I will be paying for that for many months to come. The only chance I have at having this procedure done in the foreseeable future is while I am at this job, with this insurance coverage and with the short- term disability/ flexibility of my job. This is the exact reasoning for why I am needing to have surgery within the next year and why I am fundraising to be able to afford this procedure. Phalloplasty is a procedure that uses the thigh donor site to create a sensate and aesthetically satisfactory penis that can be used for sexual intercourse and to void while standing. I believe that this last step in my transition will give me the satisfaction of living my life physically complete and bring me the overall happiness within myself as the man I was always meant to be.
