Together we have a goal of raising enough funds to cover the cost of a couple of the activities we will be working on as volunteers at Austin Children's Shelter. We need YOUR help to raise funds to purchase updated sensory room equipment and supplies for children's comfort kits!
Don't forget to talk with your children about the spirit of philanthropy and the differences in all of the ways to give!

The Projects: Sensory Room Revamp & Comfort Kits
About the Sensory Room: For youth that have experienced trauma, the world around them can feel very unsafe and unpredictable. Austin Children's Shleter youth have learned to live and function in survival mode, a highly escalated and hypervigilant state of being. Austin Chilcren's Sheltet children remember their trauma less in words and more with their feelings and bodies. The sensory room and sensory activities help ground these kiddos and help them regulate their bodies and emotions. Sensory rooms allow for safe movement, exploration, and self-soothing in a space free from overstimulation. Jumping in a foam pit, swinging, and playing with slime allows our youth to feel safe while having fun. If they’re able to have fun, they are no longer just surviving but thriving. If they are feeling grounded in a sensory safe environment, they are beginning to heal.
About the Comfort Kits: Children often arrive at Austin Children's Shelter with just the clothes on their back. Being welcomed with a "Comfort Kit" gives these kiddos items to call their own - A new pair of pajamas, a clean pillow case, a stuffed animal or body and hair care make a world of difference.
