My name is Paul Topping, my wife Erin and I am starting a fundraiser for my grandson Brayden Topping.
Brayden is an adorable, engaging baby who turned a year old in January and, though he does not known it, he is in the fight of his life. He has been diagnosed with Hurler Syndrome -one form of very rare condition known as mucopolysaccharidosis or MPS. (For more information on what MPS is, see the Canadian MPS Society web site at mpssociety.ca).
Brayden needs a stem cell transplant to live. So, we were overjoyed when the people at the Toronto Hospital for Sick Children told us they found a match.
Brayden, his Mom, Melissa Cleroux and his Dad, Ryan Topping (our son) are now on a journey through the next several months that uproots their lives in Ottawa. As young parents just starting out in their lives, they had been striving to provide for Brayden. Now, they face living in a city far from friends and family for the next several months. Ryan, while sole provider of his new family, had no choice but to leave his job to be there for his son in Toronto.
In Canada we are blessed with a health care system that provides for many things, but there remains many other things that the young couple face and need to provide for Brayden.
Once past the transplant plant procedure, Brayden will be facing other operations so that he may walk, and he will have life long needs for drugs that prevent his body rejecting the live-giving stem cells that will counter the effects of MPS.
Funds received will go to cover costs for Brayden and his parents needs both now and in the future. We will report on how these funds are used and provide updates here on gofundme.com.
Thank you so much for your support.
