Paige Garrett is one of those special people whose infectious smile and laugh imprint on your heart the moment you meet her. To know her is to love her! Paige’s easy-going spirit, positive attitude, and gracious heart are just a few of the things that make her so special to each and every one of us. Paige has a loving, supportive family and loads of friends. She needs ALL of us right now.
Paige became an RN in 2015 after completing the Associates Degree program at Wayne Community College and continued her education at UNCW obtaining her BSN online while working full time. Paige lost her mom to glioblastoma in 2012 while in nursing school, then lost her dad 5 short years later in 2017, all before her 30th birthday. Paige has continued her career achievements by becoming a fantastic ICU nurse with her certification as a Critical Care RN.
Paige met the love of her life in 2020, Jessica, also an RN. Paige and Jessica were married in March 2021 and have built a beautiful life with their 4 beautiful children and beloved pets. They have both worked hard to obtain a beautiful home and build a lovely life together working hard caring for their community as nurses.
It is what you do with adversity, not the adversity itself that defines you. At the beginning of this year, Paige began having some discomfort which prompted a string of doctors appointments and rapidly performed testing, scans, and diagnostics, all leading to a surgery for tumor resection on 3/27/2023. Paige had 2 large ovarian tumors removed. Visualization during surgery and biopsies have revealed widespread metastasis to include her liver and surrounding lymph nodes. Physicians are still searching for the primary source. Paige still has to undergo more testing and her physicians are working to solidify a treatment plan. After less than 48 hours home, Paige was readmitted today (3/31/2023) for continued nausea and no appetite.
Tenacity, grit, and fight is what it is going to take to fight this battle against cancer and Paige has all 3! We are here for the fight, and standing behind her and her family every step of the way. We show her we believe in her by supporting her in any way we can. Despite the desire to work, it is obviously impossible currently. Outside of medical bills that are already piling up for diagnostics and surgery, the day to day living expenses are still rolling on in. If we all give a little, it can go a long way.
Obviously this has had a very rapid onset, and the supportive texts and phone calls will be very helpful once there’s a treatment plan in place. Please leave words of encouragement here in the comments or on Paige’s Facebook page.
