Hi everyone.
On January 2nd, my cat Ollie broke 4 bones in his back right paw. We were told our best chance at healing is through a $5,000-$6,000 surgery, which I unfortunately can't afford. Without the surgery, our vet advised us to restrict his movement and get weekly splint changes for up to 6 weeks.
However, at our 6 week check in on February 11th, the X-rays determined he hasn't healed enough to get the splint taken off. He will need at least another month of splinting before they check on his progress again. Looking at his X-ray, though, I feel like the surgery will be the best way to heal his toes in the short and long term.
I've reached a point where I unfortunately need to ask for financial help to continue supporting Ollie's healing, for both the weekly splint changes (that are $200-$400 for the last 6 weeks depending on if he's stressed and needs to be sedated during the change), the X-ray check in appointment ($770 on February 11th, and again in 4 weeks), and the surgery (if we can afford it). We have given him 6 weeks to heal, and given the amount of bones broken and the lack of healing we're seeing, I would love to move forward with the surgery. This will also hopefully allow the bones to align, heal correctly, and lessen the risk of arthritis developing as he ages. We've been given an estimate of $5,000-$6,000 for the surgery, but we won't have a final estimate until he's seen by a specialist.
While Ollie is handling this the best he can, he is also very antsy and ready to be free again. We're keeping him gated in my bathroom and the small nook between my room and the bathroom. I sleep on the couch to watch him at night, and my sister works from the living room to watch him during the day. We are all doing the best we can, but this has been a very difficult 6 weeks, and we look forward to the day when our life can return to normal.
Through this GoFundMe, I'm hoping to fund the surgery, or at least be able to afford the weekly splint changes. I know financial uncertainty is high for a lot of people right now, so I understand if people are unable to support. I'm immensely grateful to everyone for taking the time to share our story or donate.
