HELLO! :-) I am Marsha P. and am embarrassed to say that I am in need of immediate assistance. I was an inner city public school teacher for 28 years, until health issues caused me to leave classroom teaching last year. I have been hospitalized five times over the last two years and have accumulated significant medical bills, but those hospitalizations saved my life each time, so I am very grateful. I try to pretend that everything is fine, but now I have to share my reality.
I have spent the last 9 months applying for just about every job that I think I would qualify for, but without success. I hear a lot about being "overqualified" and physical issues make standing, retail type jobs impossible. I'm stubborn and have tried to do everything without help, but due to being unable to work for the last year, my savings, retirement, everything has been completely depleted and I have liquidated everything possible. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would still be here, after all this time, without a job. All places that claim to "provide rental and utility bill assistance" DON'T. I've pretty much called them all. Without dependent children, I don't qualify for welfare. Disability paperwork is being processed, but that can take quite a bit of time, and even then, there's no guarantee. In Oct. I lost my very much needed health insurance and I'm down to pretty much having just the roof over my head, but sadly, I'm about to lose THAT also.
So....this is my reality. I need help. Lots of help. Whatever you can do will help. I'm 2months behind on rent with a new month coming in 15 days. Unfortunately, it's also lease renewal time. If I don't come up with something fast, I will lose my home. I don't have money for rent, so obviously, don't have money to move anywhere either. Without help, I can't stay and I can't go. ANY help will be soooo greatly appreciated! My landlord has been WONDERFUL about working with me and I'm so grateful for his patience, but of course, he has bills to pay also, so his position is understandable. The back rent is $1,700 and March will be $850. And that's just the rent.....
Due to losing my health insurance (I was paying $640/month) I no longer have prescription coverage. Most of my meds are a great generic under the Kroger plan. However, one of my meds is not generic and it is the one med that I HAVE to have. It is a specialty med and costs (even with a discount program I found through the pharmacy) almost $600/month. I am waiting to hear back from them about their assistance program, but for now, that's a HUGE NEED right up there with my house.
Add to these two big expenses, there's the normal day to day living things like power bills, water bills, gas for car (I sold my fully owned 2013 Toyota Rav4 with 24,000 miles and ended up with a 1998 Avalon with 240,000 miles with the engine light on earlier this summer to help pay bills.) When I say I've pretty much liquidated it all, yep, I pretty much have.
I know all this is probably a shock to some of my friends because I really haven't let people know how bad it has gotten. But here I am. Needing major help. Fast. A friend has been trying to get me to set up an account here for months, but I didn't feel like I deserved it. After all, I don't have cancer or anything like that. I'm just an elementary school teacher who had to give up her much loved career and has lost almost everything because of it. This is my final effort to fix things enough to at least breathe a little...for a month....while I pray for a positive response to my job applications. I love all of you and I am soooo grateful for any help you can provide. Even those of you who I may not know personally.... I humbly say thank you, and much love and blessings to you! :-)
