On Saturday, January 8, 2022, our lives took a dramatic turn when Ricardo tested positive for COVID-19. His condition quickly worsened, leading to hospitalization due to severe complications, including liver and kidney failure, a collapsed right lung, and 15 pounds of sepsis.

Since that day, Ricardo has faced numerous challenges. He has undergone multiple surgeries, paracentesis (a procedure where a small tube is inserted into the abdomen to drain excess fluid, helping to reduce swelling and improve comfort), and suffered from blood clots. Additionally, he has experienced loss of brain function due to Hepatic Encephalopathy, which has been incredibly difficult for our family.

We are relieved to share that Ricardo is scheduled for a liver transplant on April 16, 2025, pending successful results from all necessary tests. This fundraising effort aims to assist with the costs associated with the transplant and cover hospital stay expenses that are not covered by insurance.

During this challenging time, Jessica has been managing the household, caring for their two children, and trying to maintain some sense of normalcy while being with Ricardo as much as possible.
