UPDATE! It will be 2 weeks since the accident. Kristins medical update is as follows.
Kristin saw her GP and they took more xrays. Ortho doc is keeping an eye on collar bone brake. It's possible she may need surgery. She will need PT once her collar bone begins to heal. Right now she must keep her arm completely immobilized and in sling. She also needs to continue breathing exercises so she doesn't develop pneumonia in her lungs. Her breathing is labored due to the broken ribs and Sternum. Taking one day at a time. Thank you everyone for your donations and prayers. Please share her story. Every little bit helps ❤️

My niece, Kristin, was hit by an alleged drunk driver on Sunday, October 13, 2024. Kristin was doing what she loves to do, and that's spending time with her family on little weekend getaways. Kristin, a former Griffith resident and current Valparaiso resident, was traveling home from Patoka Reserve when another driver swerved into her lane. She crossed the median into oncoming traffic, and rolled into a ditch. She was trapped in her car until they got her out and airlifted her to a trauma center in Kentucky. Kristin's life was fortunately spared. However, she is currently dealing with multiple broken bones to her sternum, collarbone, and ribs.. These extensive injuries will require a long road to recovery.
Kristin is a Special Ed teacher in Merrillville of K-4 children. Teaching children with special needs is her passion. She supports herself, her dog Callie, and her cat Trevor. Kristin is a loving niece, aunt, daughter, sister, teacher, and actress in local plays.. Kristin will be facing monumental medical bills as well as future physical therapy. Any help that you can give Kristin will be appreciated! We are blessed that she is a survivor, but her journey to good health has just begun.
