Support for Lucas

Friends & Family of Lucas,

I am setting up this account to provide friends and family a way to help Sam and Maggie as they care for Lucas. The last month has been very challenging for this sweet family. In early February, Lucas contracted a stomach bug that went on for days, resulting in two trips to the ER and ultimately a three day hospital stay. After being home for just two weeks, he developed a fever and then a cough with wheezing, again refusing to eat or drink. His doctor was very concerned as he his ability to fight off viruses is compromised from the other recent illness. After seeking a second opinion, the two doctors decided he needed to be admitted to the hospital once again for respiratory care and IV fluids. Since being admitted today, his tests came back with a positive result for RSV. Maggie and Sam hope that this will be a short stay, but it’s unclear at this time. The medical bills will be at least $7k and the doctors are recommending that a parent stay home with Lucas at least two weeks after he is discharged to help him rebuild his strength and immune system. Maggie Is on unpaid FMLA leave from work and so following this recommendation would result in lost wages on top of the mounting medical bills. Anyone who knows Sam and Maggie will know that they are both very dedicated employees and hard workers, and asking for help is not something they do.

So many people have reached out to ask how they can help. Right now it seems that what Lucas needs most is to get through this current illness and have time at home to build back his immune system. In addition to your prayers and positive words for f encouragement, an amazing way to help would be a small contribution to lessen the financial burden facing this sweet family.
