Help for my Dad

My Dad.  My Hero.

-------------------------

WHAT HAPPENED.
(6:10 pm)  Last night I got the call from my Mom that Dad was having a heart attack.  The worst part was that I couldn't just hop in my vehicle and get to them to help in any way possible.  A blizzard was just finishing up in our neck of the woods (over 12 inches if not close to 16 inches of snow) and a lot of the roads (in and out of town) were drifted shut.

Due to the selfless service of the local volunteers from the Allen Fire and Rescue department and the plow drivers who opened up the road in front of the vehicle hauling my dad, they were able to make the 30 miles to the Providence Medical Center.  They could only move about 20-30 mph and sometimes even having to stop so the plows could clear out the bigger drifts.

This hospital was in the town where I live, so I was able to scoop myself out of our house and bust some drifts to get up to the hospital.

(8:15 pm) When they pulled into the hospital it had already been over 2 hours since the severe pain had started and Dad was still having severe chest, arm, and neck pain.   At that hospital they were able to confirm he did in fact have a heart attack and were able to give him some medication to start working on the clots.

(9:40 pm)However, to get further treatment (to actually get rid of the clot) my dad would need to be transported to a different hospital.  We got all loaded up and on the road to head to the next hospital (about 30 miles away), however when we met the plow that was going to clear the way for the ambulance we found out there was a semi jackknifed in the road to that hospital.  Our only other option was to go to another hospital (Mercy Medical) in the opposite direction (about 45 miles).  It was further away, but they specialize in things dealing with the heart.

While all this was happening my dad was still dealing with pretty bad chest, arm, and neck pain.

(10:00 pm)  We got headed in the direction of the other hospital.  One plow cleared the way to a part of the road that would require two plows to get us the rest of the way.   Then two other plows took over the leading of our little convoy (the ambulance, my vehicle, my brother's vehicle, and a follow up DOR vehicle).  Even with two plows the roads were still snow and ice covered and we could only drive about 30 mph to get there.  The drive ended up taking us about two hours to get there.

(12:00 am)  They got my dad settled into the ER of the other hospital and began running tests and getting the staff on hand that would be needed to help my dad.

Sometime after midnight we were able to visit with the doctors and the best option at this point was to go in and see what was going on inside of his arteries.

(2:46 am)  My dad was taken into what was called "cath lab" (sorry if i mispelled that).  Through this procedure they were going to detect any clots, bust them up, and open the arteries/vessels back open.

(3:46 am)  One of the awesome doctors came out and said they did in fact find a blockage in one of the arteries, but they were able to remove the blockage and place a stent in.

After this they were able to place him in ICU where they were able to run further tests, observe, and let him rest.

Right now, as I write this, he is still in ICU as they are still observing some chest pain that lingers (believe it may be post-procedural pain).

What I'm Asking For
My dad brings in the majority of the income into their household and I know that they won't be able to keep going financially without your help because in order to fully recover dad is going to need time off work to heal.  In fact, my dad is a truck driver and won't be able to even begin driving truck again (DOT regulations) until his doctor gives him clearance.

Us kids are going to do all we can to help, but I know it won't be enough between the increased medical bills, trips to the doctor, and time off work.

THIS IS AN URGENT NEED.  My dad's income only comes in after he works, and he won't be able to work anymore for a while (until he heals up).

Would you consider helping my dad and mom by donating?  Even if it's $5, $10, or $20?

This is really a BIG PLEA of help from my heart because I know this is going to be a tough season for them.

THANK YOU

What my Father Means to Me
My father has helped to shape me into the man I am today.  Not by just the words he speaks but by his actions.  My dad has always been a constant in my life and a continuous source of encouragement.  My dad has taught me to be a great husband and father, and how to love others when it was hard and to go the extra mile even when it wasn't convenient.  He has always been a source of encouragement and wisdom.  In all of my crazy ideas, my dad has always been there to help in any way he could.

My dad has been there for me and my family through all of our seasons in life.

This is my dad holding my little girl :)

From all of myself and our entire family, thank you for your support.
