This is a family of six, as seen in the picture, who had their home flooded during Hurricane Helene. They have lived in a tent in their yard for almost two months now. They were afraid to seek help due to concerns about the state potentially taking their children. I will not be using their real names or locations at this time to protect them from losing their kids. Someone found them, and word got back to the team of people that I have been working with for the past month. We had to reach out and gain their trust that we were here to only help them. They lost the truck that they used to do handyman work out of in the area so they are without any income now since Helene. They will need new tools, a truck, and property to build on. I have talked with Habitat for Humanity, and they most likely can build them a house, but they can’t build back on the property that they own because it is now in a flood zone. They need about an acre of land in Polk County, NC.

I’m John Ward, the creator of “The Appalachian Channel with John Ward” on YouTube and Facebook. I began documenting the recovery efforts in Western North Carolina on October 20th. Since then, I have posted many videos showcasing the recovery efforts in the area. Initially, I thought I would be in Polk County for just one video and then return home to Tennessee. However, I have now been here for a month, only making a few trips home to take care of things before coming right back.
