My name is Shannon Kuzio-Anderson and my husband, Rex, is a cook at a local restaurant in McDonald; he has been cooking meals for the area for over 16 years. We have been married just over two years now. A routine colonoscopy turned into the life as we now know it. In March, he was diagnosed with familial adenomatous polyposis and many of the polyps are cancerous.
On September 24, 2015, Rex will undergo a full colectomy. Due to this, he will be out of work for 4-6 weeks at first, then he will need more time off in a few months to reverse the temporary ileostomy. His company does not offer health insurance, vacation/sick pay or FMLA; my company only covers my own health insurance. We have marketplace insurance for Rex and while it helps cover some of the costs related to the surgeries, we are still struggling to pay the hospitals, laboratories, testing facilities and specialists in a timely manner. Our main worry is when he is out of work for the 4-6 weeks to heal that we will become behind on the ongoing medical bills, the home health care bills and the ileostomy supplies.
(FYI - I set a goal with no clue what amount to set it at. We appreciate any and all donations to help us get through the unemployed time frame.)
