Peyton's Promise

My name is Jonathan and this past month my little 8 year old sister, Peyton Capps, had to have brain surgery to remove a tumor on her pituitary gland. She was formally diagnosed in January 2017 with Cushing’s Disease, which is a rare disease that only 4-5 people in a million have (with only 10% of that number being children).
We were very blessed to get her into a research program at the NIH (National Institutes of Health) in Bethesda, Maryland. She underwent surgery on March 20th, 2017 with great success. They had to removed 75% of her pituitary gland, but in that 75% they were able to get the tumor causing the disease. After recovery Peyton came home and had since had to return to the hospital in Greenville for some complications three different times. She is now doing well although she has to take several medicines, shots of growth hormone, and emergency shots of Cortisol as needed. Due to the removal of so much of her pituitary gland, she now suffers from Adrenal Insufficiency and Diabetes Insipidus.
Before she went into surgery my mom and dad promised Peyton a dog when she got home. They thought this would bring her some comfort and therapy while she was dealing with recovery and the life changes she now faces. While in Maryland, Peyton met a Labradoodle (a therapy dog at the hospital) and she fell in love with it.
Because of the generousity of friends and family, we have now been able to completely pay for her new puppy with a local breeder of Labradoodles. The puppy should be able to come home with us in September or October. We are super excited for Peyton to be able to enjoy this new member of our family. As you are aware, these dogs are not cheap and the training involved for it to be a service/therapy dog is quite expensive. The breeder will be assisting us with some training, but we anticipate having to hire outside training as the puppy gets older.
One dream of Peyton's is to be able to take her therapy dog into the hospital and share her story with other children who are suffering with various sicknesses and diseases. She has such a great heart and wants to share her joy and love of Jesus with others.
This whole process of Peyton's surgery and being out of state for a month has cause some financial strains for the family. So, the dog would be an impossibility without the help of others. I have faith I can do something to help her dream become a reality.
I believe we can find enough support to help Peyton get the dog she wants, and one who will bring her much love and therapy as well. I trust you will pray and see how you might be able to help. If you are not able to help at this time I understand. Please feel free to share this on your page or with others or with companies you may know that would like to help. Thank you so much and may God bless you in return.
