Petrie Island Turtle Project
Donation protected
Petrie Island is home to five of eight turtle species found in Ontario, all of which are species-at-risk. These turtles face many threats such as habitat loss, nest predation, road mortality, pollution, and climate change. More information about the Petrie Island Turtle Project can be found on our website here! 100% of donations will go towards protecting and conserving freshwater turtles in the Ottawa River.
Donations will be used to support our conservation projects including 1) protecting turtle eggs by collecting eggs to be incubated at the Ottawa Riverkeeper, 2) tracking northern map turtles to identify their habitat use and movement patterns in the Ottawa River, 3) study how northern map turtles are affected by motorboat strikes, 4) monitor the long-term turtle populations, and 5) conduct community outreach events to spread awareness of turtle conservation issues.
