Roughly Two years ago, we reached out to family, friends, and kind-hearted strangers for support as my sister, Petra, prepared to undergo brain surgery. Thanks to your generosity, prayers, and encouragement, she was able to receive the care she desperately needed.

During her first operation, surgeons successfully removed approximately 70% of the tumour. Unfortunately, they were unable to remove it entirely because parts of the tumour had become too closely integrated with the surrounding brain tissue. While we were grateful for the progress made, Petra's recovery journey has been far from easy.

On July 13, 2026, Petra suffered 3 seizures, each occurring roughly 25 minutes apart. Following emergency medical assessments and a CT scan, we received heartbreaking news. The scan revealed tumour regrowth along with a 5 cm cyst. Doctors have also identified significant swelling around the tumour, known as vasogenic edema, which is believed to be contributing to the seizures.

We have now been told that Petra urgently requires a second brain surgery.

The tumour currently measures approximately 6 cm, and there is strong concern that tumour tissue has continued to grow since her previous operation. The goal of this upcoming surgery is to remove as much of the remaining tumour as safely possible, relieve pressure on her brain, reduce the swelling, and help bring the seizures under control. Following surgery, Petra may also require radiation treatment as part of her ongoing care.

For now, doctors have prescribed medication to help manage the seizures and keep her stable while we prepare for the next stage of treatment. However, the estimated cost of surgery alone is approximately EC$100,000, placing an enormous financial burden on our family.

As difficult as it is to ask for help again, we are reaching out because Petra's fight is not over.
