Rebuild My Pet Human’s Knee
Donation protected
Woof! My name is Utah. I’m an 11-year-old blue heeler with a case of extreme wanderlust and I need your help right now to raise $6,000 (includes estimated long term related costs) to reconstruct the knee of my pet human, Kate, so that we can go explore the outdoors together again.

You see, Kate went skiing last month, where she unexpectedly hit an icy spot and tore her ACL.
Not only can we not go camping or hiking together this summer, but she can’t even give me the proper exercise an active blue heeler like myself needs. This Thursday, May 25, she is undergoing something active humans do called ACL reconstruction surgery. It sounds painful.
Exercise is For Dogs (and Pet Humans)
I love the outdoors. Kate and I had planned on a big summer of exploring new places, but now even our daily neighborhood walks are short. I miss sniffing the grass, playing in snow, chewing on plants, and seeing the rest of the world no matter the weather.
Please offer my pet human financial assistance during this challenging time. Even the smallest donation of $5 or $10 goes a long way to help! She didn’t nickname me her “Adventure Doggie” for nothing!

Expensive Human Healthcare
Why is the ask so high? The $6,000 ask includes estimated long term expenses related to the ACL reconstruction.
Remember the episode of Seinfeld where Kramer goes to the vet because it is more affordable? My pet human has already exhausted her emergency savings. I told Kate I wished she was a fur baby like me so she could go to the vet. From what I hear, it is cheaper to go the vet than it is a human doctor!
My pet human works hard: Kate has health insurance, works seven days a week balancing two jobs, and still finds time to nurture our wanderlust. She must get her energy from me!
Breakdown of Projected Costs
Even with insurance and two jobs, it is not enough for the long term. She informed me that physical therapy alone will cost approximately $1,200, even with co-pay. Other costs she listed are medical devices after insurance deductible $1,500; insurance co-pays $40-$60 per visit; gas and parking for a loaner vehicle to get around $520 per month; dog walker to give me proper exercise $400 per week; house cleaner every two weeks ($75 per session); and possible lost wages of $1,800. The months ahead will leave my pet human mired in debt, and me a sleepy indoor dog with no exciting adventures to share with my four-legged friends. Your donation will help alleviate many of these costs and give this worried canine a peace of mind.
Rebuilding Pet Human's Knee
An outpatient surgery, the ACL reconstruction that Kate will be undertaking will use a cadaver graft (repurposed human flesh!) to replace the ligament. Small incisions will be made in the knee and surgical drills are inserted through other small incisions. The graft will be pulled through the drilled tunnels and will later be secured with hardware and closed with stitches (ouch!). The goal is to restore normal or almost normal stability in her right knee. The sooner she has surgery, the faster she can heal and we can go outside!
We Love the Outdoors!
This GoFundMe campaign is not just about the cost of living. It is about the quality of life and nurturing the wanderlust.
Maybe skip your morning Starbuck’s drink and help me help my pet human. If you cannot afford to donate, but wish to help in other ways, please PM Kate. Any help is appreciated! Besides, she promised me an early fall camping trip to the scenic beauty of desert canyons in my namesake state of Utah. Please help us realize this dream by helping us to reach our goal of $6,000. After all, the days are long but the years (especially dog years) are short. We cannot waste another moment.
