Pete's Pals

This GoFundMe page was created for the sole purpose of raising money for the long term health care of one of my oldest and dearest friends, Peter Ceriani.

The back story

After several heart attacks, quadruple bypass surgery at the age of 45 and a major stroke in 2010, Pete fought his way back through sheer strength and determination to the hilarious, funny character that we all know and love.

The living miracle

On January 20th of 2021 Pete collapsed at home in full cardiac arrest. Paramedics tried vigilantly to revive him without success. He was rushed to South Shore Hospital where doctors continued efforts to resuscitate him. Miraculously, after many minutes they were successful. Pete spent several weeks in ICU in a coma. Doctors were unsure if he'd ever regain consciousness or if he'd have resulting brain damage. The miracle continued when Pete regained consciousness. Incredibly, Pete didn't show any significant signs of severe brain damage. That being said, he was still very far from being out of the woods. Unable to breathe on his own, Peter was on a ventilator for several weeks. Eventually, Pete was breathing on his own and the breathing tube was removed. Unable to swallow, Pete required and still requires a feeding tube. Also, Pete's arms, hands and legs are severely contracted and unable to move. Even the slightest touch or movement results in excruciating pain. The one piece of good news is that Pete is able to speak. After being released from the hospital Pete spent 2 weeks in rehab without much improvement. Upon his impending release from rehab it was evident that Pete would require 24 hour skilled nursing care and was moved to a short term nursing facility. In early May, Pete was back in the hospital with a severe infection due to neglected bed sores and a UTI. The infection was life threatening. It was clear that Pete was not getting the proper care.

The Goal

Peter's loving partner of 20 years, Denise, is determined to keep Pete from spending the rest of his life in a long term nursing facility and wants to bring Pete home where he can be cared for by those who love him. It's an admirable undertaking but Pete and Denise face a long and difficult road ahead. You've heard the term "it takes a village", here's the perfect example. Pete will require 24 hour care. Too much for any one person to provide even with the greatest intentions. Denise also needs to make their home handicapped accessible. That will require installation of a wheelchair ramp among other things. Pete will require skilled nursing, in-home health aids and physical therapy. This is why we're calling on you, "the village", Pete's Pals. Your donation will go exclusively toward offsetting the financial burden of Pete's long term health care. Denise will have her hands full with providing Pete the loving care that he deserves and needs to help him recover from this devastating event. Let's show them how much we care by helping reduce the added stress of financial burden.

Pete has proven that he is willing to fight for his life and we are too!

Please join us in this fight by donating to help Pete continue the miracle. Every donation regardless of the amount will be greatly appreciated. ❤
