Peter's CF Double Lung Transplant
Donation protected
My brother, Peter Kavanagh, is 23 years old and has been battling Cystic Fibrosis for his entire life. Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic, chronic and terminal disease with no cure. He has been hospitalized over 40 times, has underdone several surgeries and also deals with CF-related diabetes.
He now needs a double lung transplant. In addition to the emotional hardship this is taking on us as a family, there is also a financial aspect that we must worry about.
Recently, Peter endured an emergency situation (collapsed lung) that left him in the hospital for over 3 weeks. This caused us more financial hardships that was unexpected. It was one of his longest stays.
Upon completion of this strenuous and high-risk operation, Peter will need to live near the transplant center (3 hours away from home) for at least 3 months. Housing, food, gas for appointments and other CF related expenses following the transplant are not covered by insurance. Our mom, Darlene Kavanagh, will be staying with him to help with his daily needs as he recovers from his transplant. The funds we raise will be used to help cover these high costs.
Peter could get "the call" for lungs any day soon. We really aren't sure, as it depends on the availabilty of the lungs.
Peter is not only my brother, he is my best friend! When we see him struggling to breathe, struggling just to walk about our home, it breaks our hearts. I am only a year older than him and he is fighting for his life. He deserves to live a life that most 23 year olds live. We are so proud of everything he has accomplished (he's a college graduate!) so far in life and know he is capable to accomplish much more, given the chance. Please help us give him that opportunity. Any little bit helps!
If you have any unwanted gift cards for groceries, food and gas, that would help out too! You could send them to my mom, Peter or myself to use for when they need it!
Thank you so much!
