Peter's bucket list to donate to care services

Donation protected
*I have chosen to leave the below information about how this GoFundMe was set up without altering or changing it. Devastatingly my Dad passed away on 28th August 2021. He was surrounded by the love of his family. This GoFundMe was such a positive focus throughout my Dad's cancer journey and something incredibly important to him. I am so thankful that he got to see the first interactive table donated. I promised him that I would continue the fundraising to get the next interactive tables donated on his behalf. I couldn't be prouder of my Dad and he will always be loved.*

*The first interactive table was successfully donated in August 2021 to Ferrol Lodge, a service caring for residents with dementia. The second interactive table was donated to the Georgina Unit in April 2022. We are now raising money for the third interactive table which will be donated to Kiniths House which is a residential home supporting adults who have a range of different learning abilities. The people who live at Kiniths House range in age from 18 to 70 years old so staff are always looking for new ways to create meaningful activities and interactions*

Peter Gathercole is my Dad. He has been a nurse for 43 years. During his career he has supported and looked after so many people! He has cared for people with learning disabilities, dementia and mental health. I know that this has been more than just a day job for my dad; it is a true vocation.

Dad was diagnosed with stage 4 oesophageal cancer and bone metastasis in January 2021. He has been told that it is incurable. As a family this has had an indescribable impact. We are by Dad's side all the way with positivity and love.

As part of his bucket list (not the red plastic, black galvanised and cream zinc ones he has joked about!) he has asked his family to help raise funds to provide six interactive tables to care services. The table is suitable for residents with reduced cognitive function in order to provide sensory stimulation. I have attached the link to the ActiviTouch website for you to find out more information.

The first table was donated to a service that cares for people with dementia.

Dad wants to donate the second interactive table to the Georgina unit at Russell's Hall Hospital in the West Midlands. This is where Dad has had his chemotherapy treatment. He noticed that whilst there for a full day of treatment, a lot of patients had nothing to do to pass the time. He therefore thinks that an interactive table will be a great source of activity for patients receiving treatment.

I know it will be a huge boost for him to be able to provide 6 of these interactive tables to services where he knows how much the service users will benefit. He is always looking for ways to help people.

Dad is always the first person we turn to when we need advice or support so I really hope we can help him to achieve this goal which in turn will help so many people.

We appreciate that 2020 and 2021 have been challenging for everyone in many ways. On behalf of my Dad and our family we thank you for taking the time to read about Dad's journey and for any donations towards the interactive tables.

We send you all well wishes and positivity xxx
