In Memory of Peter Braun

On Sunday, April 26, 2015, Peter Braun passed away at the young age of 43.  He was a husband, a father, a son, a brother, a friend, a doctor and a mentor.  He was married to his high school sweetheart, Cynthia, and over their 19 years of marriage they had six incredible children, Hayden (16), Caitlyn (15), Josh (14),  Zach (11), Ethan (8) and Alex (3).

Peter was the second child of Thomas and Carol Braun and had four siblings, Chris, Lesley, Janelle and Tommy.

Peter touched many lives as a dedicated emergency room physician and educator at Spartanburg Regional. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas at Houston and completed his residency at East Carolina University in Greenville.

Peter lived life to the absolute fullest. He adored Cynthia, his partner since their teenage years, and loved each of his children unconditionally.  He enjoyed taking the kids to soccer practice, taking trips with his family, riding dirt bikes, helping with science projects, any adventure or activity that allowed him to spend quality time with his family was the highlight of his day.  He also believed in giving back to his community and was committed to the education of the residents and team members at the hospital.  Peter and his family are devoted members of St. Paul’s the Apostle Catholic Church.

Peter unexpectedly passed away on April 26, 2015 while on a school trip with his son and their church. Unbeknownst to Peter and his family, he suffered from a blood clot, which moved to his lung and resulted in pulmonary embolism.

Our family, together with Spartanburg Regional, have started this fund in honor of Peter and his love for teaching and learning with all those around him.  The fund will be used to establish a foundation that will  contribute to the children's future education.  In lieu of flowers and gifts, we ask that you please consider donating to this fund. It is our goal to provide Cynthia with added support to ensure that Hayden, Caitlyn, Josh, Zach, Ethan and Alex have every educational opportunity.

We thank you for all of your kind words, donations and prayers. While the amounts collected here cannot bring back Peter, they will at least help provide support to Cynthia and the kids in the coming years.

With thankfulness in our hearts,
The Braun Family

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea. (Psalm 46:1-2)
