Meet Gordy, the gentlest, most fun-loving boy there ever was. He likes looking out the car window, burying his toys under blankets, rustling in grass, barking at the UPS man & being an adorable sidekick to his big canine brother Crosby.
When adopting him, we took him to the vet & found out he has a severe heart murmur which turned out be a serious congenital defect that we initially thought meant that he wasn't going to live very long.
Deciding to go ahead with the adoption, we made an appointment with the cardiologist, and we were surprised to learn that something could actually be done!

Based on the echocardiogram he just got, Gordy has been diagnosed with a congenital heart abnormality known as pulmonary valvular stenosis (PVS) and it is SEVERE. This condition is due to the abnormal development of the pulmonary valve. When the valve is malformed, it does not open fully. As a consequence, the heart is forced to pump harder to eject the same volume of blood through the narrowed orifice.

The cardiologist said he needs a balloon valvuloplasty procedure urgently since he has severe obstruction. The yellow part of this drawing is where the balloon will inflate to reopen the valve and allow blood to pump normally for the first time, and eventually let the enlargement subside and allow him a normal life expectancy.
Balloon valvuloplasty is successful in about 85% of dogs that it is performed on and he desperately needs this surgery. Unfortunately it is also $5,000! We'll also take this opportunity to neuter him to avoid having to anesthetize him again.
All funds will directly go to Dogs Without Borders .
