My dad has cancer.
Either you can’t imagine what that feels like, or you know exactly what that feels like. If you haven’t experienced this please read on with as much understanding as possible.
My dad took himself to the clinic in Tahoe City after a work luncheon for struggle of general cognitive function. Simple spelling and clarity of thought.
My mom then transferred him to Renown Medical Center in Reno for further evaluation. His admission was hurried, and within minutes of receiving a CT scan the doctors were talking about a large mass on the left side of his brain. It got worse. They took more scans where they discovered a 10cm tumor on his kidney, which was the cause of the tumor in his brain. Additional legions were also found on his lungs, along with two more in his brain. The official diagnosis is called Renal Cell Carcinoma.
He was then transferred to the oncology wing of Renown. Doctor after doctor coming through the night, and hours to follow establishing next steps. A plan to get my dad the University of California San Fransisco to be admitted Monday January 21 2019 in preparation for brain surgery on Wednesday. I do not know what will occur in San Fransisco or much to the extent of his procedure. If all goes according to plan the recovery will last 2-4 weeks and then immediately begin immune cell therapy. There is also the opportunity for him to receive a trial treatment for his body to start fighting the tumors. The place of his treatment is still undecided and unknown, and I will provide as many updates as possible as we go forward.
On Friday January 18th, 2019 about 7:30p my dad started his fight against cancer. And today I ask for your help in this fight.
Medical bills will begin to pile up quickly for my family. Travel and living expenses for my mom to remain by his side in San Fransisco are already upon us. This means my family’s ability to generate secondary income is gone.
We need prayer first, as God is the only thing that can heal my dad at this point. This cancer is currently incurable. Second, we desperately need financial support. Anything you can do to help will go a long way to take burdens and stress away from situation that has no time for it.
We greatly appreciate anything you would consider contributing to this fund to help my dad, Peter Strand, fight for his life.
