Peter Roberts' Traumatic Brain Injury

Donation protected
On 20th July 2022, my 22-year-old nephew, Peter, was assaulted in an unprovoked attack in Zakynthos, Greece.
He was viciously beaten, fracturing his skull in two places, causing a severe brain bleed and life-threatening swelling.
His parents, Lesley and Ray, flew out to be with him when they were told he'd been rushed to Zakynthos Hospital. Upon realizing the extent of his injuries, he was transferred by air to Tzaneio Hospital in Athens, where he underwent an emergency Craniotomy.
The right side of Peters's skull was removed, and his life hung in the balance for several weeks.
Daily, Lesley and Ray were told that his injuries were so severe that he was unlikely to survive. Each time, they prepared themselves to say goodbye.

After six agonizing weeks in an induced coma and on life support, Pete defied the odds and began to wake up!

The joy was short-lived, however. Two days later, both his lungs collapsed. He was placed back into a coma, and seven drains were inserted to try to clear the fluid and air preventing his lungs from inflating. At this point, he weighed a dangerously low six stone. His immune system started to fail, and he was at risk of sepsis from several infections he was fighting.

Doctors had no choice but to transfer Pete to a third Greek Hospital, with Les and Ray at his side as always, where he had emergency surgery to save his life once again.

Despite best efforts, there was nothing more the Greek Hospitals could do for Peter. His only chance of survival was to be flown back to the UK in critical condition.
On the 12th of September, after eight Hellish weeks in Greece, they all returned to the UK.

Pete has been receiving exceptional care at Royal Stoke Hospital, where he is progressing slowly but surely. He is in a minimally conscious state but is finally breathing on his own and improving every day.
Now, he needs to re-learn the basics; swallowing, eating, talking, reading, writing and walking. It will be a long rehabilitation process. Nobody knows to what extent Pete will recover, but what is vital at this stage is that he is surrounded by encouragement and positivity. He is one Hell of a fighter!

Many of you will know Peter lives here on Anglesey and grew up in and around Rhosneigr and RAF Valley. Les and Ray now have to make the 5-hour round commute to be with Pete in Stoke, and no one can say how long he will be there.

I know they will be struggling financially after so long (and they'll hate that I've done this!), and I've had many people asking if they can help somehow. So I'm setting this page up for those who want to help. Funds raised will help Pete with his physical and mental recovery in what looks to be a long road ahead.

Please donate if you are able, and please, please keep Pete in your thoughts and prayers!

Thank You!
