I have had a number of people reach out to me asking how they can help in regards to my brother's situation. We are so thankful for the hundreds, if not thousands of people who have been consistently praying for him and following his progress. Here is his story.
Peter is 32 years old. He lives in southwest Wisconsin and works on the family dairy farm. He has been married to his wife, Shelby, for five years. They have 2 children: Erika, 4 years old and James, 2 years old.
In November 2019, Peter began noticing symptoms that indicated he had a kidney condition. The condition was supposed to be treatable. Peter battled this kidney disease for a year, spending over 100 days (separated from his from young children due to COVID regulations) in the hospital in 2020. His condition was very rare and treatments were sporadic due to COVID. His condition deteriorated quickly and his doctors were at a loss as to how to help him.
After an appointment with MAYO clinic in October 2020 he was declared to be in full renal failure and then pursued kidney transplant. He was undergoing dialysis 3 times a week during the time of waiting.
God provided a kidney surprisingly quickly in answer to many prayers and we were so hopeful that this would finally be a step in his healing process, giving him a much needed respite from the constant medical treatments. Our ways, however, are not God's ways. After a week, the doctors were concerned that his new kidney was not functioning properly. A biopsy revealed that his FSGS was now aggressively attacking his new kidney.
The doctors decided that it was best to pursue intense, daily treatments trying to slow the FSGS to give this new transplanted kidney a chance at survival. Peter and his family are currently staying in a hotel next to the hospital so that he can be at the hospital daily receiving treatments, undergoing dialysis, and having his condition closely monitored.
Peter and Shelby are thankful for how wonderful their insurance has been to cover the bulk of the medical expenses. This gofundme account will help cover their travel expenses and other expenses that are not covered by insurance. Thank you so much for supporting them financially as they continue this battle for Peter's life.
