Stephen “Peter” Scott McBoyle

September 12, 1968 – September 9, 2022

Peter McBoyle was an exceptional Dad and husband, a musician, a masterful sound designer, a mentor, and a loyal friend.

His love of music emerged early. He loved attending the Claude Watson arts program at Earl Haig Secondary School and spending summers working at Canada’s Wonderland. He earned a Bachelor of Music in Trumpet Performance, and a Masters of Music in Sound Recording and Engineering from McGill University. He began his career in live theatrical and system design, ultimately making his home in Stratford, Ontario where he raised his beautiful family.

Peter designed the sound for tours and productions in major theatres across Canada and the United States, including more than 80 productions over his 26 years at the Stratford Festival. His work is also heard on cruise ships, in installations and exhibits, and in the system designs for venues. Peter was generous with his time and was a mentor to many over his years in the industry, including through his teaching roles at Ryerson University and Humber College.

His friends and family knew him as a fantasy sport champion and avid baseball listener, comic book and MCU expert, (cheap) wine aficionado, and consummate playlist curator. He was a friend to woodland creatures, and knew how to cut a rug - with earplugs in of course to protect his livelihood. Above all, he was a kind and caring colleague, friend, brother, son, father, and husband, whose legendary sense of humour and quick wit enriched all who knew him.

We are profoundly sad to have lost our beloved Peter at the age of 53 to a swift and highly aggressive metastasized cancer after he was diagnosed in late June. He spent his last days at the Stratford Rotary Hospice, with his wife and daughters.

Peter is predeceased by his mother, Beverley (née Ives). He leaves behind his wife Meghan Callan, his daughters Ella and Beatrice McBoyle, his father David, his brothers Doug (Natalie) and Tad (Ulises), his in-laws Marilynn and John Callan, his brothers-in-law David and Michael (Christine), his nieces and nephews, Briar (Kurt), Liam, Charlie, Ruby, Rosalie and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

We are forever grateful for Peter’s circle of love and support. He received exceptional care during his brief illness. We thank the many nurses, doctors, physiotherapists, social workers, and others at Stratford General Hospital, Victoria Hospital and Cancer Centre (London), and Stratford Rotary Hospice.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth: https://www.rotaryhospice.ca/ways-to-give or to a trust fund that has been set up for his children via E-transfer to: [E-Mail ausgeblendet].

A private family service is planned. Everyone is invited to a Celebration of Life in Peter’s honour at the Festival Theatre at 2pm on Monday October 24th, 2022.
